PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under the direction of the school principal, the overriding responsibility of the K-5 INSTRUCTIONAL COACH/ INTERVENTION TEACHER is to assist in the implementation of the grade level standards and instructional program and provide direct intervention services to students by serving as a mentor and resource for K-5 teachers and students.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the school principal and the District Educational Services administrators, provide support and assistance to K-5 teachers in effective implementation of the grade level curriculum and small group instruction to students.
•Advocate and reinforce District philosophy related to the importance of teaching the Language Arts and Mathematics program with fidelity
•Share knowledge of effective strategies in Language Arts, ELD and Mathematics instructional delivery
•Support the philosophy of specific, effective instructional strategies for English learners
•Provide support to students by delivering direct instruction to small groups in the classroom
•Conduct demonstration lessons and assist with curriculum and pacing of programs to insure that core instructional materials are used as designed
•Conduct focused observation and provides “next step” support to K-5 teachers
•Identify teachers to serve as “best practice” models for other teachers
•Provide formal/informal feedback and professional development for teachers on effective instructional strategies and classroom practices
•Assist classroom teachers in identifying students’ academic needs and planning appropriate intervention and accommodation strategies for all students, including English Learners, students enrolled in special education programs, and all students with diverse learning needs
•Plan, facilitate, and attend grade level meetings/study groups to assist teachers in maintaining pacing of instruction and utilizing data to determine “next step” instructional strategies and classroom practices
•Plan and conduct inservice for instructional aides, parents, and community members
•Attend District-provided coach meetings and local professional development to improve site implementation of a standards-based curriculum
•Prepare forms, records and reports for the purpose of monitoring implementation
•Meet regularly with teachers, site administrators and District Educational Services administrators to articulate goals
•Assist in the ordering, delivery and inventory of instructional materials
•Performs other duties related to support of the school at large

RQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Successful teaching experience, with evaluations meeting or exceeding standard performance ratings
•Valid California teaching credential
•Appropriate certification to teach English Learners
•Experience in collaborative planning and delivery of differentiated staff development to classroom practitioners
•Coaching training

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

•Knowledge of differentiated classroom instructional practices that promote student academic success
•Knowledge and understanding of the needs of a diverse student population
•Strong oral and written communication skills
•Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and standards-based instruction

SALARY SCHEDULE

Salary is dependent upon teaching experience and education. Full credit is given for approved years of prior teaching experience. The salary schedule extends from a minimum of $57,050 and to a maximum of $109,341 per year. There is a $1,500 annual stipend for BCLAD and a $1,000 annual stipend for CLAD.
